For medium and large stores with multiple entrances, installing people counting systems at each entrance shows the traffic at each one and informs in-store layout. High-traffic areas can feature key products or promotional displays.

Footfall data should also be assessed together with sales. If traffic is high but sales are poor, possible causes include a poor store layout, overpriced products, a mismatch between products and location (for example, selling traditional tea for seniors in trendy Ximending, or opening a bookstore in an industrial zone), or competition from other stores.
