More than security: a key step toward library automation

RFID stands for radio frequency identification. RFID devices serve the same purpose as barcodes or magnetic strips, but no physical contact is required. The RFID device simply needs to be scanned to retrieve identification information.

RFID is already used in many countries around the world. The six most important benefits of RFID in libraries are:
1. Shorter queues 2. Better working conditions for librarians 3. Improved customer service 4. Increased circulation/turnover 5. Enhanced logistics processes 6. Far fewer false alarms
Because RFID is a scalable library system, it is ready for the future. You can start with a basic investment, such as tags and security gates, and later add more features such as self-service or inventory counting, without changing any tags or products you previously purchased.

At Nedap, we call these building blocks. We have created 3 building blocks for your smart library:
1. Secure RFID library
2. RFID self-service library
3. Library service point

We have different solutions for every library to keep it relevant in today's information age. Small libraries just need their items secured; large libraries need support for rebinding books, sorting collection items or more efficient logistics; and small libraries may be expanding. Whatever your needs, we have a solution for you!
